There are thick forst of Himalayan Cedar , the quite legendary “deodar” and those woods are liberally garnished with trees of spruce and the unusual birch , the ”Bhojpatra”, whose peeling bark served as parchment for ancient Indian text. Picture –perfect villages, orchards and fields fill the valley floor. The old Hindustan-Tibet Road passes through the Kinnaur valley along the bank of river Sutlej and finally enters Tibet at Shipki La pass. Ancient Indian texts like the puranas placed the people of Kinnaur as halfway between men and gods. Other ancient traditions speak e exile of the Pandavas and the time they spent in Kinnaur, an episode from the epic, Mahabharata. Kinnaur was a part of erstwhile Chini Tehsil of Mahasu district of Bushahr principality which had its capital at Kamru. Later, the capital was shifted to Rampur Bushahr. After the fall of the Kannauj Empire the rulers of Kamru annexed adjoining territories by force and laid the foundation of the state of Bushahr, to which the region of Kinnaur belonged till the dissolution of the state after independence of India. It is known for the Kinnaur Kailash, a mountain sacred to Hindus, close to the Chinese border.
The slopes of Kinnaur Hills are covered with thick wood, orchards, fields and hamlets. Various agro/agri/food/organic products like spices, Fruits, and other items are produced in the region of Kinnaur such as Kinnaur Apples, Almonds, thin shell almonds, dried apricot, Chilgoza , Akhrot, Shahi jeera (cumin), Rajma (kidney beans) , dry kinnaur peas, Sattu, Chulli, dry apple chips, Chulli oil, Chestnut fruit, Walnet, Guchchi ( wild dried mushroom) , white honey, multifora honey, fafda Floor, ogla floor etc. Moreover, products of vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, dried fruits, pulses etc are also organically produced in this region. Products mentioned above are all produced organically and have medicinal properties which can cure a number of ailments.
